Peter Peyser, 93, Former Irvington Mayor, U.S. Congressman

Peyser moved to Irvington in 1951 and was elected mayor in 1962. His Congressional district in the '70s and '80s included Greenburgh.

Peter Peyser, a former five-term member of the United States House of Representatives and a former mayor of Irvington, died Thursday at the age of 93. The New York Times first reported the story.

Peyser moved to Irvington in 1951 and was elected mayor in 1962, according to The Journal News. He served in Congress in two stints in the 1970s and early ’80s, first as a Republican and later as a Democrat.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry, writes The Journal News’ Greg Shillinglaw. St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Irvington will host funeral services Monday at 3 p.m., and burial will be private.
