Sentence In Stabbing Death Of Scarsdale Physician

Her husband had pleaded guilty to stabbing her 22 times with a kitchen knife.

SCARSDALE, NY — The Scarsdale financial advisor who admitted in court that he stabbed and killed his physician wife was sentenced Wednesday, Aug. 15. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Julius Reich, 64, of Scarsdale, received a sentence of 20 years in state prison for the death of his wife, Robin Goldman, MD, in Jan. 2016.

Reich pleaded guilty in May on the eve of trial to first-degree manslaughter, a felony. He had originally been charged with second-degree murder, a felony, and a misdemeanor weapons possession charge.

Goldman’s children had advised the district attorney and the court that they wanted to avoid the trauma of a trial.

The children were in complete agreement with the first-degree manslaughter plea, because it would make their father accountable for his actions.

They said they were relieved that Reich had accepted responsibility for his actions and that his plea would help them move forward and bring a conclusion to what was a horrific situation.

The family was not present for the sentencing, according to a spokeswoman for Scarpino’s office.

Reich and Goldman were in the process of getting a divorce. He split his time between an apartment in Manhattan and their home in Scarsdale.

The morning of Jan. 20, 2016, Reich entered the upstairs bathroom where he stabbed Goldman 22 times while she was in the shower, resulting in wounds to the chest, abdomen and back. He used an 8-inch kitchen knife.

Goldman died at the scene.

After the attack, Reich went downstairs and sometime later call 911.

Scarsdale police officers responded and found Goldman’s body in the bathroom.

Reich was arrested at the scene.
