21-Foot Cuddy Runs Aground In Narrow Bay In Mastic Beach

Shallow water stopped first responders from accessing the boat, so the people onboard walked to shore, a U.S. Coast Guard spokeswoman said.

MASTIC, NY — A 21-foot Cuddy ran aground in Narrow Bay in Mastic Beach early Friday morning, but the four people on board were unharmed, according to the United States Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound.

The boat ran aground at about 12:30 p.m., but the water was so shallow that neither Suffolk County police’s marine bureau or the Mastic Beach Fire Department were able to get to the people on board, Lt. Jennifer Sheehy said.

The water was shallow enough that the people on board were able to disembark the vessel and walked through the marshland to the shore where they ordered an Uber cab to take them home, she said.
