MASTIC BEACH, NY — The William Floyd School District, with the assistance of nearly 150 student-athletes, coaches, administrators and members of the Board of Education, recently celebrated an official ribbon-cutting for the brand new multi-purpose turf sports field located behind Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School.

The field represents a state-of-the-art location with a brand new track, turf field, goal posts, scoreboard and more, where multiple sports teams at all levels can compete, the district said.

“Finally, our fields are going to match the talent that plays on them every day,” said William Floyd Board of Education President Robert Vecchio, who cut the ribbon with fellow trustee Robert Taiani.

The new multi-purpose sports field is just one facet of the $39.4 million capital plan approved by voters in October, 2017. The project also includes the newly-opened and centrally-located adaptive playground for students and the community, new auditoriums for secondary schools, air conditioning in the three buildings without, infrastructure improvements across the district, a brand new multi-purpose sports turf at the Lincoln Avenue Sports Complex, new tennis courts, softball/baseball field upgrades and more.

The track and field are also open to the community for use each day during non-school hours from dawn until dusk, district official said.
