Police Rescue Man From Shirley House Fire
The roof and second floor were on fire, police say.
SHIRLEY, NY — Police rescued a man from a Shirley house fire on Sunday, authorities said.
According to Suffolk County Police, a 911 call came in just before 8 p.m. about smoke coming from the second floor of a home located on Floyd Road. Suffolk County Police Officers Kyle Negrin and Harrison Dow arrived were told at the scene that a man was possibly still inside the home, where the roof and second floor were on fire, police said.
The officers entered the residence through a rear entrance, found a 51-year-old on the second floor, and escorted him out of the house, police said. The man was evaluated and was not injured, police said. Negrin was taken by mbulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for treatment of smoke inhalation, police said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Suffolk County Police Department's arson section detectives.
