Riverhead Man Robs Shirley Jewelry Store: Police

He tried to break into a jewelry case by hitting it with a brick, demanded a key, stole jewelry, and fled before being caught, police say.

SHIRLEY, NY – A Riverhead man was arrested and charged with robbing a Shirley jewelry store Tuesday, police said.

According to Suffolk County Police, Joshua Wilson, 22, entered Kay Jewelers on Montauk Highway at 4:40 p.m. and unsuccessfully tried to gain access to a display case by striking it with a concrete brick. Wilson then demanded a key to the case from an employee, stole jewelry, and fled on foot, police said.

A Seventh Precinct officer located Wilson about a half-mile from the store, police said.

Wilson was arrested and charged with third-degree robbery and third-degree criminal mischief, police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday, police said.
