The William Floyd Colonials boys’ varsity soccer team is three for three on this young season opening up with successive victories over Bellport, Walt Whitman and Sachem East (3-0 Overall/1-0 League play). With a mix of potent offense and strong defense, the Colonials have outscored their opponents by a score of 9-3. Off and running with a great start, they will look to continue their push into the playoffs over the final 11 games left on the regular season schedule.

Head coach Paul Paniccia said youth is the theme this season, as there are only three returning starters from last year, Sebastian Sosa, Mike McGuire and Andrew Hall. Coach Paniccia is looking for and getting contributions from a mix of sophomores and juniors while the seniors have stepped up and in to important leadership roles to help the team succeed. Junior Mario Salguero currently leads the team with six goals and senior Andrew Hall has 22 saves.

“The goal is to make the playoffs with a very young but extremely talented team,” said coach Paniccia. “Our team slogan this season is ‘Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success,’” he added. “While many of the student-athletes have known each other and trained together over the summer, this is the first time they played as a team. We expect to grow together and get better as a team throughout the season.”
