William Floyd Names New Assistant Principal at Nathaniel Woodhull

The William Floyd School District recently appointed Erica Peralta to the position of assistant principal at Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School. In this role, she will assist the principal in leading approximately 700 students in kindergarten through fifth grade and help to oversee a staff of nearly 60 faculty members and 50 professional staff. She will serve with current principal Monica Corona, who will retire at the end of this calendar year, and then with, Dr. Heather Murillo, who will become principal on January 6, 2020.

“I am honored to be a part of the William Floyd team and entering this new phase of my career at Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School and I thank all those who have welcomed me as part of the William Floyd School District,” said Ms. Peralta. “To those students, families, teachers, staff, administrators and community members I have yet to meet, I look forward to us learning and growing together for years to come.”

After serving as a New York City Teaching Fellow in 2005, Ms. Peralta began teaching second-grade bilingual at the Ruby G. Allen School PS 148 in Elmhurst, NY. After two years in that role, she joined the Riverhead Central School District and served as a bilingual elementary school teacher for kindergarten and first grade at Phillips Avenue Elementary School, and for fifth and sixth grade at Pulaski Street Elementary School. During her time with the Riverhead district, Ms. Peralta also served as a summer school educator, provided summer literacy training for ELL (English Language Learner) teachers in grades three through 12 and served as a mentor to new bilingual teachers and TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language) candidates.

Ms. Peralta earned her BA in Government and International Relations with a concentration in Latin America and the Caribbean from Manhattan College. Following her NYC Teaching Fellowship, she earned her MA in Childhood Education from Queens College. She also attained her School Building Leader/TESOL dual certification from St. John’s University and her Educational Administration/School District Leader certifications from the College of St. Rose.
