MASTIC BEACH, NY — William Floyd High School’s student musicians amassed nearly $1 million in scholarships, school district officials said.

The announcement was recently made at the school’s 4th annual Senior Signing Day event for college-bound student musicians. To be a collegiate musician, the students must first be accepted to a college or university, “and then be invited to audition, which involves rigorous preparation and a presentation of between two and five musical pieces performed before a panel of music professors,” according to school district officials.

Several seniors committed to performing in collegiate music ensembles, while three will minor in music, and nine will major in music in the areas of music performance, music education, music composition, music industry, music business, and musical theater, school district officials said.
