John Campbell was a three-year varsity starter for both the Colonials’ baseball and football team. On the football field, John was regarded as an extra coach by his teammates due to his leadership on both sides of the ball -- offensive lineman and linebacker – due to his ability to read the plays and make adjustments at the line of scrimmage. His tremendous leadership led him to becoming a senior captain in 1978 as well as being named All-League as a linebacker.

When he wasn’t dominating on the football field, John took his talents to the baseball diamond, where he was a stellar third basemen. During his first season on the varsity team as a starting sophomore, John helped the team to a 17-1 season record, the best in Suffolk County that year. He was named the team’s captain during his senior year and went on to hit .341, propelling him to All-League honors.
