Before graduating in 1998, Rex Hodgson left behind a lasting William Floyd Colonial legacy. The Hodgson family has been an integral part of the William Floyd Colonial basketball program, and Rex, like his brothers Rob and Ryan, and his father Bob, was no different. Rex played on the varsity basketball team for five seasons (1993-1998). He was named captain of the team during his junior and senior seasons. He finished All-League, All-Conference and All-County following his senior season. He set the Colonial record for most points in a quarter with 18 against Patchogue-Medford. When he wasn’t leading the Colonials on the court, Rex was a volunteer youth basketball program instructor, coach and referee. He also joined the track and field team in 1998, and participated in a Suffolk County tournament for the high jump.

Rex had many personal accolades, but he is most proud of what his team was able to accomplish during his playing years. He helped lead William Floyd to a League I championship, Class A Section championship and a Suffolk County Championship in his first season on the varsity team. As a junior, he would help lead the Colonials to an undefeated season, winning the League I and Suffolk County Championship yet again.

After Rex finished in the top 20 in his class and graduated from William Floyd High School, he attended New York University. At NYU, Rex played on the men’s basketball team from 1998 to 2002. He was the team’s most outstanding defender for the 2000-01 and 2001-02 season as well as University Athletic Association (UAA) Conference All-Academic Team in 2001. Rex was a starting forward for his junior and senior seasons and also appeared in Sports Illustrated on February 28, 2000. He majored in Metropolitan Studies and Economics at New York University, and later earned a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Tech.

Today, Rex works as a transportation planner and lives in Vancouver, Canada, with his wife and two children.
