Best SoHo Bars to Celebrate, Drown Your Sorrows in the Weekend After Election

Check out these SoHo bars this weekend.

SOHO, NY — The election is over, but most people are still feeling the aftermath of the results. Whether you're shocked and saddened, or cheering and celebrating, both situations call for a nice, big drink. SoHo is the perfect neighborhood to hit up some trendy watering holes to get the party (or wake) started.

Houston Hall - 222 W. Houston St.

This is a great place to go if you're feeling like you need to get a little loud after this election. Cheering, screaming, anything goes. You can get into a political debate with just about anyone sitting at your communal table. You'll pretty much feel like you're back in college at Houston Hall: It's a little dirty, pretty crowded, and very fun. It's is a sight to see, though, as it was a former horse barn that has beautiful exposed wood beams still intact from the 1800's.

Kenn's Broome Street Bar: 363 W. Broadway

Stop by Kenn's Broome Street Bar if you're wiped out from the election and need to relax with some good food. Broome Street Bar is a chill, no-frills bar in the middle of SoHo. The atmosphere is a standard late-night tavern, but the people who work there are friendly and personable, and the burgers are satisfying. The menu is simple and filled with good American food, and they have a solid beer selection. There were rumors that the bar would close after the owner died, but thankfully the owner's daughter now runs the bar.

The Ear Inn - 326 Spring St.

Check out The Ear Inn if you feel like escaping from the world for a little bit after the new President-elect was announced. This speakeasy was used as a boarding house, smuggler's den and brother during Prohibition times. After Prohibition, the bar reopened, and is now the oldest bar in NYC that's continuously served alcohol since 1817. It has a neighborhood, low-key vibe and an authentic New York charm, and it prohibits the use of talking on cellphones inside. Although it's usually crowded, the bar is known for having quirky and friendly patrons who are sure to cheer you up if you're disappointed with Tuesday's results.

Pegu Club - 77 W. Houston St.

Pegu Club is a great place to come with a group to grab some innovative house cocktails and hang out on the brown leather couches. The bar is cozy and dark, which makes for the perfect place to have a quality conversation about the election outcome, without loud music or rowdy bar patrons interrupting you. You can't go wrong with the house cocktails, which are all made with fresh ingredients and juices. We recommend the Earl Grey Gin MarTEAni ($14), which is an early grey infused gin with egg white and lemon. The smoked trout deviled eggs are also a must-try.
