Bright Red Building Planned To Tower Above Canal Street
The proposed building will have three retail spaces on the ground floor and a apartments on the floors above.

TRIBECA, NEW YORK — Plans for a plot of land on Canal Street, near Mercer Street, would give rise to a nine-story, brick-red residential building, according to a new report.
The plan for the building at 312-322 Canal Street was submitted to the Landmarks Preservation Commission by Paul A. Castrucci Architect, Yimby first reported. Castrucci had submitted another plan to the LPC in 2011, but that was deemed too bland for the area, according to the report.
The site is in the Tribeca East Historic District.

If approved, the new building would be 76 feet high and have brick-red terra cotta on its facade.
Castrucci told Yimby that the facade has, “a critical dialogue with its surrounding context. The façade’s repetition recalls some of the underlying structural rhythms of the historical district’s notable palazzo-style, cast-iron facades, but avoids replicating or reproducing their forms, details or material choices.”

The building would offer three retail spaces on the ground floor, a number of one-bedroom apartments and a four-room penthouse with private terrace access.
The plan will go before the LPC for approval on Tuesday.
