Chinese New Year, Scented Art And More | Fun Events In Manhattan

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are the most interesting events Manhattan has to offer.

MANHATTAN, NY — No matter what you're looking for this weekend, Manhattan has something to offer, from Lunar New Year events to Black History Month screenings and art exhibits you can smell.

"On a Tipped Chair" Exhibit at the Sheen Center

When: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. through Feb. 23

Where: The Sheen Center, 18 Bleecker St.

What: It's your last chance to check out an exhibit where you can both see and smell the art. The exhibition, "On a Tipped Chair," features paintings from the artist Jared Boechler, and include smells "from memories that have directly influenced the outcome of the individual works, ranging from notes of lemongrass to black tar," according to the Sheen Center. When: Feb. 24, 12:15 - 4:15 p.m.

Where: Paley Center for Media, 25 W. 52nd St.

What: The Paley Center is screening popular TV shows and movies that celebrate the African American experience for Black History Month. Two hours will include episodes from "Teen Titans," "Justice League" and "Static Shock," aimed for families with kids between the ages of 6 and 13. Later, the center will screen news and nonfiction films geared toward teenagers, including on about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. You can learn more here.


Lunar New Year Festival at the Met

When: Feb. 24, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Where: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Ave.

What: The Met is hosting a full day of special programming for families to celebrate the Year of the Dog. Service dogs will be at the museum as part of a special presentation from the Guide Dog Foundation. Activities will include Chinese fan painting and scent tour of the museum. Chinese New Year Parade

When: 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25.

Where: The parade begins on Mott Street, between Canal Street and Chatham Square .

What: The Chinese New Year parade is one of the biggest spectacles of Chinatown, and of the Lunar New Year in New York City. The parade will include some of the city's more impressive displays of Chinese culture in a route throughout Chinatown and the Lower East Side.
