Make Your Own Customized Shampoo and Conditioner at Nolita Pop-Up

A new company lets you choose what you want your products for, and what kind of hair you have.

NOLITA, NY — A new concept that allows customers to customize their own shampoo and conditioner is coming to Nolita later this month with a pop-up shop on Mulberry Street. The company, called Function of Beauty, was founded by two MIT graduates who want you to choose exactly what kind of hair products you need.

Function of Beauty says there are over 12 billion possible combinations of shampoo and conditioner you can make in their store. They give you a quiz that asks you questions about your specific hair type, its structure, moisture level, your favorite fragrance, and five goals you have for your hair in the coming weeks. The customized hair quiz is kind of fun to complete online, if you have some procrastinating to do.

At the pop-up shop, you will be able to pick and choose your products and watch them being made in a "live demo."

"Some people may be completely sold on the products they use and not want to change a single thing, but those people are few and far between, and even then need to rotate products based on the season or a change in hair-style," the company's CEO, Zahir Dossa, told TechCrunch. "We can quickly alter formulas for customers based on these changes, allowing an infinite number of tweaks so that our customers always have the perfect shampoo."

An 8-ounce set of shampoo and conditioner is $32, and a 16-ounce set is $48. The Function of Beauty pop-up shop comes to Nolita Friday, Nov. 11 to Wednesday, Nov. 16. It's open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 219A Mulberry St. in Nolita.
