Man Breaks Arm in Fight After Being Tossed Over Subway Turnstile

The two men got into a fight after the suspect demanded money from the victim.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Two men got into a fight in the Houston Street 1 station with one of them ending up tossed over a subway turnstile and in the hospital with a broken arm.

Police said the incident took place on Sept. 22 at 3:40 a.m. when a 20-year-old man was waiting outside for an Uber when the suspect rode up and demanded cash. The 20-year-old refused and walked away toward the West Houston Street subway station. The suspect followed him, police said, and the two got into a verbal argument in the subway stop. The suspect then tossed the man over a turnstile and he landed on the concrete platform and broke his arm. He went to Bellevue Hospital on his own to be treated for the injury, police said.

According to a police spokesperson, the suspect knew the individual from social media but was not aware of his actual name. Police provided a photo of the suspect from his social media account in which he's wearing a "RE2PECT." hat, sold in the wake of Derek Jeter's retirement from the New York Yankees.
