Roommate Kills Woman While Muffling Snores With Pillow: Report

A Soho man killed his 92-year-old roommate early on Thursday morning, police said.

SOHO, NY — A Soho man suffocated his 92-year-old roommate with a pillow on Thursday because she was snoring loudly, the New York Post reported.

Enrique Leyva was arrested and charged with murder for killing the woman, police said. An NYPD spokesman could not immediately provide details on how the roommate, Veronica Ivins, died.

The New York Post reported that Leyva, 47, held a pillow to Ivins' face early Thursday morning to muffle her snores.

Police said they responded to a 911 call at their Soho apartment on Sullivan Street at about 6:50 a.m. on Thursday.

"I killed my roommate," Leyva told police when he called 911 on Thursday, law enforcement sources told The Post.

Officers found Ivins lying unconscious in her bed and she was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

"He placed a pillow over her face and then placed his hands around her neck," an anonymous police source told The Post.

Leyva, who was arraigned on Friday, smother Ivins with a pillow and then used his bare hands to strangle her to be sure she died, a police officer said in Leyva's criminal complaint.

Patch was not immediately able to locate a defense attorney for Leyva.
