Manhattan Events Happening This Weekend
March in a parade of boomboxes, see holiday lights in one of the city's oldest bars, and more.
MANHATTAN, NY — Looking to get in the holiday spirit without hordes of tourists? Patch has rounded up the best activities happening around Manhattan this weekend that (hopefully) will be a little off the beaten path.

What: A giant group of people carrying massive boomboxes will (loudly) march from Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village to Tompkins Square Park in the East Village. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own boomboxes, but the organizer will have some extras on hand.
When: Sunday, Dec. 17 starting at 5:45 p.m.

What: This pop-up museum is taking over a Soho loft to display its interactive exhibit of antiques and other quirky collectibles. Included in the wide-ranging collection are an organ grinder, an 8-track player, an apothecary scale and more.
When: 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Dec. 17
See The Holiday Lights At Pete’s Tavern
Where: 129 E. 18th St., Gramercy Park
What: The bar is so well known for its holiday spirit that it’s staying open on Christmas Day and New Years Day to give reveler a chance to bask in the spectacular light display. The most elaborate of the light displays is the tavern’s “red ceiling,” which is completely covered in red holiday lights. As an added bonus, the bar claims to be the oldest continually operating watering hole in NYC, giving the long-standing joint some added history to its holiday display.
When: The bar is open from 11 a.m. until 2:30 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday, 11 a.m. until 3 a.m. on Thursday, and 11 a.m. until 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday
Holiday Caroling and Cheer at Knickerbocker Village
Where: Knickerbocker Village, Lower East Side
What: The housing complex will host an afternoon of caroling and holiday cheer, complete with songs, hot chocolate and cider.
When: Sunday, Dec. 17 starting at 2 p.m.
