See How Insanely Expensive It Is To Get Married In NYC

Think you can guess the average price of a wedding in Manhattan? It's higher.

MANHATTAN, NY — Manhattan was the most expensive place to get married last year with a typical wedding costing more than double what it would elsewhere in the country, according to a new study.

The average couple who got married in Manhattan spent $76,944 on their special day last year, the study said. Across the country, the average cost for 2017 weddings was $33,391, making Manhattan a doubly expensive spot to tie the note compared to your typical U.S. nuptials.

The staggering price tag was revealed in the annual wedding trends survey released by The Knot on Wednesday. The Knot, a popular wedding planning website, surveyed 13,000 brides and grooms who got married in 2017 to collect and analyze data on newlyweds and their ceremonies.

These pricey nuptials shadowed more affordable options in other parts of the country. Couples who got married in New Mexico spent an average of $17,584 last year, making the state the most affordable spot to get married in The Knot's survey.

Manhattan weddings also nabbed the top spot when it comes to wedding gowns. Brides in Manhattan spent an average of $2,504 on their dresses, more than anywhere else in the country, according to The Knot. Brides in Long Island weren't too far behind – they spent an average of $2,347 on their gowns last year, the study said.

The Knot pooled its massive base of users to gather the information. Knot users who were married last year were sent a survey shortly after their wedding day to create the nationwide trend data.
