Taiyaki NYC’s Christmas Treat is Instagram-Ready

Check out these mouthwatering creations.

LITTLE ITALY, NY — Japanese eatery Taiyaki NYC, located at 119 Baxter St., has gained attention since opening in September for its eponymous desserts, which are popular in Japan. Taiyaki — which literally translates to "fried fish" — are sweet, thick, waffles shaped like fish, which hold delicious soft serve ice cream in their open mouths.

In the spirit of the holidays, Taiyaki NYC has come up with a special Christmas tree-inspired design for its signature dish. The seasonal taiyaki is filled with sweet red bean paste and matcha (green tea-flavored) ice cream, decorated with peppermint and green sprinkles, drizzled with caramel and finished with a gold star tree-topper.

The $7 delicacy is calling out to be Instagrammed — and visitors to the shop are heeding the call:

The treats are available through the end of the year. It may seem like an odd time for ice cream, but as one happy taiyaki eater commented: "I'm so happy I didn't mind my hand almost freezing!"
