2 Mercedes Benz Stolen, Crashed In Hamptons: Police

One teen was arrested and charged after both Mercedes were stolen and later, crashed when authorities tried to stop them, police say.

WATER MILL, NY —One teen was arrested after two Mercedes Benz vehicles were stolen from a Water Mill driveway Sunday and later crashed, police said.

According to Southampton Police, at 2 a.m., a call came in about the two vehicles taken from a man's driveway. A patrol officer spotted the two vehicles heading west on County Road 39 and attempted to stop the drivers, who refused to pull over and began to drive recklessly on Sunrise Highway in the westbound lane, police said.

The person driving a 2020 Mercedes Benz G Wagon exited Sunrise Highway and crashed the vehicle in a wooded area; the occupants fled on foot, police said. The person driving the second vehicle, a 2012 Mercedes-Benz convertible, continued driving recklessly and heading west on Sunrise Highway before crashing in a wooded area between Exits 62 and 63; those occupants also fled on foot, police said.

A search involving K-9 units from both the New York State Troopers and Suffolk County Sheriff's Office, as well as Suffolk County Aviation, ensued, police said.

A 17-year old who had been in the Mercedes Benz G Wagon surrendered and was taken to Southampton Police headquarters, police said. He was arrested and charged with second-degree grand larceny, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, three counts of unsafe turn, reckless driving, seven counts of speed violations, traffic device violations, and driving without a license, police said. He was released to his mother due to New York State bail reform legislation, police said.
