SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Sunday is Valentine's Day and despite the pandemic, two socially distanced events are planned to celebrate Cupid's big day in Southampton.

The event, presented by the Southampton Trails Preservation Society, includes a moderately paced three-mile hike with views of Big Fresh Pond and Wolf Swamp. Those who take part will visit the historic cemetery, which is part of the park, and hear the story of Emma Rose Elliston, who was born on a whaling ship off Hawaii, organizers said.

All hikers will keep an appropriate social distance with face masks required. A donation to the Southampton Trails Preservation Society is encouraged. To sign up, contact trail leader Dai Dayton by calling 631-745-0689 or emailing daidayton@aol.com by Saturday, Feb. 13 at noon.
