5 Minutes With High-End Hamptons Event Planner Larry Scott
Lawrence Scott talks about entertaining — Hamptons-style.
SOUTHAMPTON, NY — When it’s time to throw a party in the Hamptons, Larry Scott, the creator and driving force behind Lawrence Scott Events, is often the man A-list hosts and hostesses in town turn to.
Scott has lived in Water Mill for 10 years and believes that to throw a fabulous event on the East End, ”You have to live in the Hamptons to fully understand it, not just read about it,” he said.
He began his career as a caterer and then opened his own restaurant on Long island called Larry and The Redhead. From there, he went on to establish Lawrence Scott Events in 1989 where, he said, he “established a reputation for exceptional one-of-a-kind celebrations.”

Scott told Patch his events run the gamut “from the ridiculous to the sublime. A Larry Party brings families and friends together for life’s most memorable moments and milestones.”
This summer, he took time out from throwing parties at other people’s estates and event spaces — and threw his own memorable bash at his home in Water Mill for close friends and long-time clients.

Among his invited guests were Michael Strahan and Rosanna Scotto. But while Scott works with many celebrity names, he enforces the cone of silence when it comes to his clientele.
“One of the reasons my celebrity clients keep hiring me is because of my discretion, which is why I keep my client list undisclosed,” he said.
A much talked about Larryism at his own party were the white “Keep Calm and Live Like Larry” T-shirts the waitstaff wore.
Another unforgettable summer of 2016 event he produced was Michael Bolton's An Evening Under the Stars benefit in Bridgehampton.
If he were to single out a signature look at a Larry party, he cites “the nine-foot trough filled with fruits and vegetables posing as a chandelier.”
His advice when it comes to food, is to serve “comfort food gone gourmet,” he said.
As for the best party drinks, he said rose, tequila and vodka are the most popular spirits in the Hamptons.
Would Scott want to work anywhere else? “Where else in the world can you plan a party on one of the world's most famous and beautiful beaches one week and in the woods the next week — or even in a cornfield or horse country the week after!”
