Body Of Man Missing Since January Found In Southampton: Police

After three months, the body of a man who went missing near his home in Hampton Bays has been found, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — The body of a man who had been missing since January was found last week in Southampton, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police Lt. Susan Ralph, the body of William Woodworth, 58, of Massapequa and Hampton Bays, was found on Meadow Lane in Southampton Village on April 14.

In January, a family member called and said that Woodworth had left his residence and might be driving to his Hampton Bays home, Southampton police said. He might be suicidal, police said.

Woodworth's vehicle was located at the residence in Hampton Bays and there were indications that he had possibly entered the water close by, police said.

Southampton police patrol units, the detective division, an unmanned aircraft unit, a New York State Police K-9 unit and quad, as well as Southampton Town bay constables, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Hampton Bays Fire Department, the Southampton Fire Department, Suffolk County Police's aviation unit and Sea Tow searched for days without finding Woodworth, police said.

A Silver Alert was also issued by Suffolk County.
