The show centers on three generations of a family in a small Texas town that gather for the funeral of their elderly family matriarch, whose death occurred during a clandestine meeting in a seedy motel. As preparations ensue, the audience learn the “hilarious, sad and trashy truth of this dysfunctional family,” the release stated, adding that some elements of the play come directly from Shores’ life.

“ Sordid Lives” was also a film and a short-lived TV series featuring performers Delta Burke, Beau Bridges and Olivia Newton-John. The original play premiered in Los Angeles in 1996 and won 14 Drama-Logue Awards. The show has since become a notable and quotable cult classic.
