Driver Charged With DWI Left Scene After Crash: Police
The Westhampton Beach man was arrested in Bridgehampton, police say.
BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — A Westhampton Beach man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he fled the scene of a Bridgehampton crash Monday, police said.
According to Southampton Town Police, at 6:07 p.m., Abbas N. Chagani, 34, was involved in a crash on Sagg Road and Montauk Highway in Sagaponack and drove away. Chagani was stopped shortly after on Butter Lane by Maple Lane in Bridgehampton; an investigation revealed that he was operating his vehicle while intoxicated, police said.
Chagani was arrested, taken to Southampton Town Police headquarters for arrest processing, and held for morning arraignment, police said. He was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated; leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, an infraction; and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle on a highway, an infraction, police said.
