Heavy Rain Possible Overnight on Long Island

The rain should be gone by sunrise Friday.

The National Weather Service has canceled a hazardous weather outlook for Long Island, but rain and possibly a thunderstorm is still expected late Thursday night into early Friday morning.

The storm system should be out of the region before sunrise Friday, the NWS says.

  • Tonight- A chance of showers before 10pm, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 10pm and 2am, then a slight chance of showers after 2am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 69. South wind 9 to 11 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Friday- Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 84. North wind 9 to 13 mph.
  • Friday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 67. West wind 3 to 7 mph.
