Hundreds Still Without Power As Winds Wallop South Fork

Winds are expected to die down Monday afternoon, the NWS says.

SOUTH FORK, NY — With winds continuing to wallop the East End Monday morning, hundreds are without power as of noon.

A total of 24,822 were without power across Long Island Monday afternoon.

According to Jay Engel, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office at Upton, 35 mile per hour winds continued to pummel the East End Monday but are expected to "come down" during the afternoon and evening hours.

The winds left homes across Southampton Town without power. According to the PSEG Long Island outage map, as of noon, 769 customers in East Quogue were affected, with scattered clusters of outages in Hampton Bays, 126 homes without power near St. Andrews Road, 678 in Tuckahoe, 359 in Noyack, and 255 in Sag Harbor.

In East Hampton Town, 186 were without power in Springs, 214 in East Hampton, 165 in Napeague, and 101 in Montauk.

PSEG crews are working to restore power, said Elizabeth Flagler, media representative for PSEG Long Island. "Since the storm began, crews have been working 16-hour shifts to restore power to all customers affected. Since midnight Sunday, PSEG Long Island has completed approximately 365 jobs that affected approximately 68,000 customers. We have a full complement of crews working to restore power safely and as quickly as possible to the remaining customers affected. It is forecasted to continue to be windy into the afternoon, which may cause additional outages. Additional crews will be arriving from PSE&G New Jersey to provide assistance with PSEG Long Island’s restoration efforts," she said.
