A Suffolk County jury has convicted an East End landscaper of the rape and murder of a Flanders woman more than two years ago, said Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota.
Alfonso Alvarado-Ajcuc, 23, of Riverhead, was convicted Friday of the second degree murder of Mirian Yohana Garcia, 29. He strangled her and left her nude body in a wooded area on Route 58 in Riverhead where it was discovered on May 7, 2012 behind the DMV office.
Deliberations began Wednesday after a two-week trial.
Spota said he will recommend the maximum imprisonment of 25 years to life at Alvarado-Ajcuc’s sentencing on July 9.Â
