Man Charged With DWI After Rollover Crash: Police

He veered off the roadway and into an embankment before overturning, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A Riverside man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a rollover crash Saturday, police said.

The crash took place at 8:10 p.m. when Christopher Smothers, 55, who was driving on County Road 104 at County Road 105, veered off the roadway into an embankment and overturned his vehicle, police said. Smothers was uninjured and climbed out of the car as police arrived, authorities said.

During the investigation, it was found that Smothers was driving in an intoxicated condition; Smothers was arrested, charged with DWI, transported to Southampton Town Police headquarters, and held for morning arraignment, police said.
