Man Charged With DWI After Water Mill Crash: Police

The East Hampton man fled the scene, police say.

WATER MILL, NY — An East Hampton man was charged with driving while intoxicated after fleeing the scene of a Water Mill crash early Sunday, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, Cristian Chumbi, 20, was arrested at 5:22 a.m. after the crash; he was found heading east on Montauk Highway in Sagaponack with heavy front-end damage to his car, police said.

Chumbi was stopped, found to be intoxicated, and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and leaving the scene of a crash, a violation, along with several other vehicle and traffic law violations, police said.
