Man Charged With DWI Left Smoking, Damaged Car At Dealership: PD

He left the car, which had extensive front-end damage and heavy smoke pouring from it, at a car dealership, then walked away, police say.

WATER MILL, NY — A Bellport man was arrested in Water Mill and charged with driving while intoxicated after he left a damaged, smoking car at a car dealership before trying to walk away, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, Jorge Amaya Argueta, 27, of Bellport, was arrested on July 4 at 6:35 a.m. after a patrol officer observed a vehicle with significant front-end damage and heavy smoke coming from it enter and park at a car dealership. Argueta then got out of the vehicle and walked off, police said.

Argueta was approached by the officer, interviewed, and found to be intoxicated; he was charged with misdemeanor DWI and held overnight for morning arraignment, police said. Officers canvassed the area, but were unable to locate the scene of any crashes, police said.
