Man Opens Envelope With 'Suspicious' White Powder: PD

Numerous emergency response personnel turned out after the call about the "suspicious white powder" was received, police say.

BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — 'Suspicious' white powder in an envelope opened by a Bridgehampton man Tuesday was determined to be non-hazardous material after it was tested, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, at 12:25 p.m., a 44-year-old man in Bridgehampton called to report that he'd opened the envelope.

Multiple units including Southampton Town police and detectives, fire marshals, the Suffolk County Police Department's arson squad and emergency services unit, the Southampton Fire Department and Southampton Ambulance, and the Bridgehampton Fire Department and Bridgehampton Volunteer Ambulance were at the scene investigating, police said.
