New Car Route for Traffic to the Eastern Long Island Hospital Emergency Room Announced

A new route for emergency room automobile access for non-ambulance traffic to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport has been implemented.

The hospital has announced the route change is effective immediately for all non-ambulance emergency room traffic.

New signs have been placed at the first (westernmost) driveway entrance on Manor Place, and at the Atlantic Avenue and Manor Place intersection directing the general public to emergency room access via the Townsend Creek side of the hospital.

“This change was made to resolve some of the confusion reported by patients seeking emergency care,” stated Paul J. Connor III, President/CEO. “The new route is intended to prevent the occasional parked car from blocking the ambulance bay and unintentionally restricting access to emergency vehicles. Ambulance access will remain, as it always has, at the East End of Manor Place.”

The new route allows cars direct access to the walk-in emergency entrance where dedicated parking is available.  Additional signs will be installed on the hospital campus-- including painted arrows and banners--to further clarify the most direct route for those traveling to the emergency room.
