New Director Of School Safety Named In Southampton

"The safety and security of every child and employee in the district will always be my number one concern."

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — The Southampton Union Free School District has named a new director of school safety: Daniel Caroleo has taken the helm, effective Aug. 19.

“The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance, and we are certain that Mr. Caroleo will work to ensure that our current safety standards are met and improved upon,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicholas Dyno.

Caroleo joins Southampton with 20 years of police experience. As a patrol officer with the New York Police Department from 1982 to 2002, he responded to 911 calls and conducted investigations.

He then served as the director of security for the North Babylon School District from 2002 to 2016, a role in which he worked to improve safety conditions and oversaw the security department. In addition to his work experience, he is a member and currently sits on the executive board of the North Babylon Fire Company. In the past, he has held the role of chief and managed 200 firefighters, a release said.

“The safety and security of every child and employee in the district will always be my number one concern. My goal is to create an atmosphere of safety and security with the least amount of infringement on the educational process," Caroleo said.
