Police: Armed Robbery in Bridgehampton

The Town of Southampton Police are looking for a man who broke into a Bridgehampton house Tuesday morning, and attacked one of the residents with a pistol before demanding money and stealing multiple electronic devices in what police believe was a targeted robbery.

At approximately 11:30 in the morning, the police received a call reporting a burglary in progress at a house on the Sag/Bridge Turnpike. The caller said that a man had broken into the house and was attacking a man in the upstairs area of the house.

When the police arrived at the scene, they were told that a 26-year-old man was injured. The police secured the scene and the injured man was transported to Southampton Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A subsequent investigation revealed that that the thief had forced his way into the house, violently shoving the 51-year-old female resident who answered the door. The thief then made his way to the upstairs of the house where he confronted his 26-year-old victim, demanded money and struck him repeatedly with a handgun. The attacker then gathered up a number of electronic items and fled the scene on foot.

The Southampton Town Police, with the assistance of Sag Harbor Village Police and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit, searched the area, but suspect was not apprehended. The police said that a full and “vigorous” investigation is underway.
