Real Housewives of New York Star Unwinds In Southampton

Ramona Singer said her East End home brings a welcome respite after a painful divorce.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Fans of the Bravo show The Real Housewives of New York have watched Ramona Singer live through the painful reality of her divorce from husband Mario.

One thing that helped her escape the public eye, Singer said, was her home in Southampton, where she now lives as a single mom.

Singer has been visiting the East End since her college days and eventually settled in Southampton, she said.

“I love it because it’s social like the city, yet you are in the country, which is where I was raised," she said.

The one big difference for Singer is the fact that the Hamptons has the ocean, something she never had as a child in upstate New York.

“What’s great about the Hamptons is you can be as high-profile or as low-key as you want. You can go to a benefit with 300 people one night and then entertain at your house with six people or dine alone the next night — and it’s all good,” Singer said.

Hamptons life differs from Singer's New York City routine because she entertains more frequently on the East End, she said.

“Everyone does. Everyone I know has a wonderful home. It’s all about entertaining here. It’s just easier. On Sunday we had six people for lunch. I'll set the table and six turns into 12.”

And, yes, the well known reality show Housewife, who is seen on TV dining out all the time in Manhattan, actually cooks when she’s in her Hamptons kitchen, she said.

“In the Hamptons everyone is eating healthy. My go-to things to grill are turkey burgers and grilled chicken teriyaki with shaved ginger,” she said.

She also says she enjoys making breakfast for her daughter, Avery. “She likes my eggs.” She laughed. Because while she enjoys spending time with friends, Singer's main priority is her daughter, a college student. But during the summer Avery spends lots of time in the Hamptons.

“What I want this house to be is a place for my daughter and her friends. Her friends feel comfortable sleeping over,” said Singer.

Singer, she said, has an open door philosophy when it comes to houseguests, both her own and her daughter's: “Stay as long as you want.”

Singer also socializes with fellow Real Housewives Sonja Morgan, Bethenny Frankel and LuAnn de Lesseps when she’s in Southampton. “Basically we are the Housewives of the Hamptons, too."

The Hamptons remains a special place in Singer's heart, despite her public image and a recent painful divorce journey captured in the public eye.

That's why, she said, living her life post divorce in the home where she and her former husband raised their daughter in isn't sad for her. “I love this house. It’s filled with happy memories for me.”
