Southampton Guide to Summer Camps

With the warm weather on the way, now is the time to select a great summer program before they all fill up.

With a little less than four months left in the school year, local parents have already started planning for their kids’ summer vacation.

And that means one thing: summer camp.

To help you decide, Southampton Patch has compiled this summer camp guide featuring a host of programs in town — and many others from nearby towns — to make the job of picking the one that’s right for your kids a much easier task.

Location: Southampton
Name: Camp Gan Israel
Type of camp: sports/outdoors/arts/religious
Cost: $650 weekly -  $3,300 for full season, depending on age.
Where: Two locations: Southampton Montessori School, 135 Saint Andrews Road, Southampton. Second Location:  Southampton Stony Brook, 239 Montauk Hwy, Southampton.  
When: July 1 - Aug. 9, broken into sessions. Closed July 4.
Deadline for registration: Full Tuition Due May 1.
Details: Camp Gan Israel provides a summer camp experience for Jewish children in the Hampton. The day camp offers sports, athletic competitions, and creative arts programs for children: Mini-Gan (ages 2 - 4), Junior Divisions (ages 5 - 8), Pioneer Division (ages 9 - 10), and Counselor in Training (ages 11 - 13).

Location: Bridgehampton
Name: Hayground Camp
Type of camp:  Educational/outdoors/sports/arts
Cost:  $800 - 3,850 for half-day program; $900 - $4,750 for full-day program
Where: Hayground School, 151 Mitchells Lane, Bridgehampton.
When:  July 1 - Aug. 23, closed July 4.
Deadline for registration:  First-come, first-serve with limited enrollment.
Details: Hayground’s educational day camp allows children ages 3 - 13 to explore a variety of activities including music, arts, sports, cooking, woodworking, swimming, gardening, chess and sailing. Children are divided by age group.

Location: Bridgehampton
Name: The Art Farm
Type of Camp: Toddler to teen/variety of activities
Cost: Tuition varies based on program, length of day, and frequency. Find tuition rates here.

Details: The Art Fun offers water sports camp, pony camp, "unstructed freedom," sports camp, soccer camp, summer tutoring, and more. Children are divided by age group and themes.

Name: Camp Flying Point
Type of camp: special needs/outdoors
Cost: $350 first child, $250 second child, $200 third child
Where: Southampton Fresh Air Home, 36 Barkers Island Rd., Southampton
When: Aug. 21 - 30
Deadline for registration:  June 15, late applications at camp director’s discretion.
Details: Camp Flying Point, run by The Flying Point Foundation for Autism, is a summer camp for children with autism ages 6 - 17 to develop social and communication skills alongside their typically developing peers. Campers will participate in swimming, art, yoga, music and non-competitive sports.

Name: Sandy Hollow Day Camp
Type of camp: sports/arts and crafts/outdoors
Cost:  Half-Day Program: $320 per week - $1,780 for eight-week session, Full Day: $480 per week - $2,960 for full session. Transportation $125 weekly (for full-day).  
Where: Sandy Hollow Day Camp, Country Road 52, Southampton

Deadline for registration: Enrollment after June 14 requires tuition be paid in full.
Details:  Sandy Hollow Day Camp a family-owned and family-operated camp that offers a half-day program for children ages 3-4, full day for school-age children   focusing on sports, arts and crafts and the outdoors.

Name: Time 4 Teens
Type of camp: outdoors/bereavement
Cost: $25 per teen
Where: Southampton (undisclosed)

Details: This special 4-day camp hosted by Time 4 Teens creates a caring, sensitive environment for teens ages 12 - 19 who are dealing with the loss of a loved one.

Name: Future Stars
Type of camp:  sports
Cost:  $445 - $495 per week, Tennis: $700 - $750 per week, Little Stars: $425 - $475 per week.

Details: Future Stars offers sports program for children in grades 2 - 12 to learn skills in their favorite sports: baseball, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, tennis and multi-sports. In addition, Future Stars offers a Little Stars program for children entering pre-kindergarten - first grade are introduced to various sports.

Name: Camp Good Grief
Type of camp: outdoor/bereavement camp run by East End Hospice
Cost: free to any child who has suffered the loss of a parent or loved one
Where: Cornell Cooperative Extensions’s Peconic Dunes 4H Camp
When: August 19 - Aug. 23 (day camp)
Deadline for registration:  Open enrollment as long as long as space is available.
Details:  Camp Good Grief offers children a safe place to process and openly express their feelings. Created by East End Hospice in 1997, the camp offers specialized support for children, ages 4-17 years, grieving the loss of a parent or loved one.

Location: East Hampton
Name: Camp Blue Bay
Type of camp: Girl Scouts
Cost: Girl Scouts $450 - $625 per week, Non-Girl Scouts: $480 - $655 per week.
Where:  Camp Blue Bay, 103 Flaggy Hole Rd., East Hampton.
When:  July 8 - Aug. 15.
Deadline for registration: Ongoing as space permits.
Details:  Camp Blue Bay is one of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County's  sleep-away summer camp for girls, provides that traditional summer camp experience with campers sleeping on cots or tents, making campfires, and having cookouts. Campers can sign up for theme weeks to select their activities.

Details:  Camp Quinipet offers a variety of outdoor camps in Shelter Island’s natural settings: Sleep Away (grades 2 - 12) allows children to spent a week away from home playing sports and exploring outdoors, Day Camp (ages 2 - 13) is full of fun activities including sports, outdoors and arts and crafts, S.I Show Kids (ages 8 - 14) has former Broadway performers training children for the stage, and  Sailing (grades 3 - 10) teaches sailing basics.

Details:  The Boy Scouts of Suffolk County host day and resident camp programs for boys, featuring a freshwater lake and beachfront on Long Island Sound. Specialty programs are also include Counselors in Training, Sailing Camp, Bridge Camp and Trail to Eagle for those preparing to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

Details:  Cornell Cooperative Extension runs a variety of summer day camps at the Suffolk County Farm for children entering kindergarten to 12th grade. Children are grouped by age:  Explorer (kindergarten), Pioneers (grades 1 - 2), Trailblazers (grades 3 - 4), Navigators (grades 5 - 6), STEM (grades 7 - 9), Dog Days (grades 5 - 8) and Farm Animal Care (grades 10 - 12). Programs feature hands-on activities and educational learning in animal science, agriculture and environmental science with nature crafts, wagon rides and more.
