Voters Support Southampton School Budget

SOUTHAMPTON, NY —Residents in the Southampton Union Free School District approved the district's $71,908,015 proposed budget for the 2019-20 school year by a vote of 517 to 287 Tuesday.
The proposal calls for a 2.09 percent increase in spending over the current year and the tax levy increase is 3.21 percent, which is within the tax levy cap.
Four board of education candidates are ran for two open seats, including incumbent D0nald J. King, Meesha Johnson, Leslie Duroseau, and Charles A. Styler.

The winners were incumbent King with 425 and Styler with 381 votes.
Johnson received 238 votes and Duroseau, 373.

Voters also weighed in on propositions, including one to continue to amend the bus fleet replacement capital reserve fund, which passed 552 to 247.
Residents also voted 581 to 217 to appropriate and expend $380,000 for the purchase and replacement of three 72-passenger buses from funds in the Southampton bus fleet replacement capital reserve fund.
A proposition to expend 1,800,000 from the 2007 Ten Year Capital Reserve Fund for building improvements passed 566 to 232.
