Texting in Courtroom Gets Greenport Man the Book

After repeated warnings to put down phone, man gets arrested for texting

The Southold Town Police arrested a Greenport man for repeatedly talking on his phone and texting while in front of the Judge at the Southold Justice Court.

On August 15, Allen P. Brown, Jr. 23, was in the Southold court room. While court was in session he was asked numerous times to stop talking on his cellphone, but ignored the warnings. At approximately 11:50 in the morning, when it was his turn to appear before the Judge, Brown began texting.

An officer of the court then placed Brown under arrest for disorderly conduct. Brown then resisted when he was being placed in a holding area and charged with resisting arrest.
