Following Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s announcement that New York State will end mask mandates and adopt CDC guidelines for fully vaccinated individuals, the Town of Southampton is pleased to announce that, effective Wednesday, May 19, 2021, fully vaccinated persons will no longer need to wear face coverings in Town facilities.

Individuals are considered fully vaccinated if they are more than 14 days from their second shot (if they received a two-dose vaccine) or their first shot (if they received a one-dose vaccine). Persons who are not fully vaccinated must continue to wear face coverings in order to enter Town facilities, including Town Transfer Stations. Persons who are not fully vaccinated must also continue to wear face coverings at Town parks and beaches, if social distancing cannot be maintained. Attestation forms or proof of vaccination, however, will not be required. Also, anyone who would prefer to continue to wear a face covering is free to do so.

Supervisor Jay Schneiderman stated, “This is a significant milestone in the path to bringing our lives back to normal after the pandemic. I hope this news will make people smile, and I look forward to seeing those smiles for the first time in over a year.”

The Town is also re-evaluating its current reduced hours of operation and visitor limitations, and will announce changes shortly.
