A search was conducted by Suffolk County aviation, USCG Station Cape Cod and USCG Station Shinnecock, as well as Southampton Town Police, she said.
"Whether we find a person's belongings in the kayak or not, unless we can identify the owner and make sure he or she is safe, we don't know whether the kayak just washed up on the beach or if someone fell off," Sheehy said.

Identification stickers can be found at any USCG auxiliary team, she said.
No other information was immediately available, the Coast Guard said, urging kayakers to wear life vests and paddle responsibly.
