A parcel of land on the Danilevsky Farmland on Uncle Leo’s Lane in Water Mill is currently available for resale by the Peconic Land Trust as part of an effort by the Trust to make farmland affordable and accessible for farmers to grow food.

The land is 13.9 acres of conservation property, located in an Agricultural Overlay District as well as the Aquifer Protection Overlay District, is meant for agricultural use.

For the past 50 years, a single family has used the land to grow potatoes and corn.

The property was purchased by the Peconic Land Trust in July 2014.

The land is current subject to a Town of Southampton Development Rights Easement with Affirmative and Affordable Farming Covenants and Resale Restrictions.

The trust worked with the Town of Southampton to draft the Development Rights Easement with Affirmative and Affordable Farming Covenants and Resale Restrictions, which is available online.

The property is being marketed to qualified farmers as the Development Rights Easement requires that 80% of the farmland be in food production.

The resale of the land will include conservation restrictions so that it remains protected.

The price for the land is current $360,796.87, not including taxes and other associated closing costs.

Anyone interested in making an offer on the property must submit a Proposal by 5 p.m. on April 1, 2015 and submit an application.

Peconic Land Trust will announce the selected farmer by 5 p.m. on April 17, 2015, they hope to sell the protected farmland by June 17, 2015
