Will President Obama Visit the Hamptons and Play Golf at National Golf Links of America?

The question is two fold; while still President, will Barack Obama make a public appearance on the east end of Long Island and will he ever get to play a round of golf at National Golf Links of America in Southampton?

National Golf Links of America is a very private club and was the creation of Charles Blair Macdonald, who existed in highest national social circles that made it easy for him in 1906 to sell seventy $1,000 memberships to wealthy friends. Macdonald did this in order to raise the money so he could purchase the land and build National Golf Links in Southampton. The list of the original members included The Harrimans and the Hunts, Harry Payne Whitney, William K Vanderbilt II, J.P. Grace, Clarence McKay and even Abraham Lincoln’s son Robert Lincoln.

A few years back former President George W. Bush captained a Walker Cup team event at National and played a few rounds himself. Although there are no reports of President Clinton playing there, he has been seen on many of the courses on the east end since he vacations in the East Hampton vicinity. Vice President Joe Biden’s excursions and stays in Southampton have been well reported but President Obama has yet to appear on the east end.

So will President Barak Obama journey out to the east end, perhaps to raise a few million for Hillary’s campaign or the Democratic National Committee and play a round at National? He has to be invited; will anyone invite the President? I hope so!
