9 Animals Rescued From Filthy Hudson Valley Home
Putnam SPCA officers found deplorable living conditions for both humans and animals and extreme neglect.
KENT, NY — Police and SPCA officers joined Putnam County Child Protective Services Tuesday at a home on Chief Ninham Road. Called over the welfare of a child, officers had found a urine soaked, feces covered environment and nine animals that had been starved.
Officers of the Putnam County SPCA arrived to see deplorable living conditions for both humans and animals alike.
Upon further investigation, they found extreme animal neglect.

They rescued nine pets that were living in urine soaked, cluttered, feces filled environments. All of the animals showed some level of emaciation, and some were extremely emaciated. The animals rescued were taken to Guardian Veterinary Specialists where they were examined.
The animals included one boxer breed dog with extreme emaciation having a Body Condition Score of 1/9. (The Body Condition Score is based on a 1 to 9 rating where 1 is extreme emaciation with muscle loss and 9 is extreme obesity. Healthy animals are in the 5 range.) Three chihuahuas -with Body Condition Scores of 1/9, 3/9 and thin but with a significant heart murmur. One severely emaciated German Shepherd with a Body Condition Scale of 1/9, one ferret, one rabbit, and two cats were also rescued from the deplorable living conditions.

All the animals were covered with filth and feces and smelled of urine. All showed signs of severe neglect.
The Putnam County SPCA arrested the 45-year-old resident, who owned the animals, on nine alleged counts of animal cruelty.
Due to the involvement of Child Protective Services the Putnam County SPCA will not be releasing the name of the woman.
At present, the animals are not available.
