The beaches at Lake Carmel have been closed all day Thursday because of the suspected presence of blue green algae, according to the Lake Carmel Park District. The algae appears to be present near Beaches 2 and 7.
The situation will be reassessed tomorrow morning, July 8, and a decision will be made on whether to keep the beaches closed.
The park district said that LIFE Inc. will be treating Lake Carmel with Cutrine Plus Ultra on Tuesday, July 12th. The chemical kills algae. Although there are no restrictions on the use of the lake , the beaches will need to be closed for the application.
