Carmel High School Robotics Team Earns Rookie Award
Carmel High students take part in robotics competition for the first time.

The Carmel High School Robotics FRC Team won the Rookie Inspiration Team Award at the First FRC New York Tech Valley Competition held in Troy, NY. The competition combines the excitement of a sport with science and technology as the teams must compete to build and program a robot to perform a prescribed task. FRC stands for FIRST robotics competition.
FRC encourages participants to help other teams and cooperate while competing. The Carmel High team was cited for its “gracious professionalism,” something that FRC promotes, according to the Putnam County Times and Putnam County Press.
The team, known as the Bad News Gears, is advised by technology teacher Don Saldicco. Team members include Isabela Yepes, Brandon Miletti, Jared Ortega, Cristina Kobierowski, Logan Saldicco, Anna Mederer, Sergio Zgymunt, Will Groundwater, James D’Angio, Gabriel Harrison, Jeremy Shikarides, Emily Peters, Frank Peters, Max Meyers, Rachel Wahler, Danielle Rubiano, Nicholas Patino, Noah Ullman, Will Hernandez, and Owen Carmody.
