Connecticut Victim In Putnam County Crash Has Died: NYSP

The crash occurred as a Carmel man was driving on the shoulder, passing cars on the right, New York State police said.

SOUTHEAST, NY — A Connecticut man has died three days after a three-car crash on Route 22 in Putnam County, New York State police said.

Police said their initial investigation into the April 26 crash revealed that Ricardo Bregante of Carmel was driving north on the shoulder of Route 22, passing cars on the right, when he smashed into a car turning right from the northbound lane into the Gulf Station at 1565 Route 22.

Bregante, 57, was driving a 2008 Honda CRV.

The 2017 Ford Edge he hit was operated by Christopher T. Hammill, 47, of Stamford. The collision caused Hammill to strike a 2018 Toyota Highlander in the gas station parking lot.

Bregante and the operator of the Toyota were transported to Danbury Hospital in Connecticut for non-life-threatening injuries.

Hammill was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead on Thursday.

The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
