Galef: New York Needs a State Bank

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef (D-Westchester/Putnam) says she has the medicine for New York State's economic woes—a state bank.

"In light of the recent fiscal crisis, the prospect of a state owned and operated public bank is something that must be further examined," Galef told Patch. "The creation of a consistently funded and well-managed public bank, which must serve a well defined social purpose, could lead to the formation of many local projects that could create jobs which strengthen our communities as well as our local economy."

Galef has kicked off a public-access television series that explores the idea, and calls on local experts to sound off. In the series, Galef anwsers questions and explores the state bank that currently exists in North Dakota
