HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Thunderstorms, some of them severe, will accompany Thursday's showers and periods of heavy rain across the region.

For Dutchess and Ulster counties, the National Weather Service issued a hazardous outlook that extends into Friday.

First, showers and thunderstorms are expected Thursday into the evening. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our region in a marginal to slight risk of severe thunderstorms with the primary threat from damaging wind gusts and a secondary threat from hail. Ponding of water on roadways and standing water in low-lying areas is also possible due to heavy rainfall. Isolated flash flooding is also possible where showers and thunderstorms are more numerous and persistent.

"The combination of mostly cloudy skies reducing the severe threat, and the low number of scattered thunderstorms should result in a low impact for the Hudson Valley," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather, issuing their latest StormPact scale. "Keep in mind, this means one or two severe storms being possible, and the potential damage limited to a few locations. Should a severe storm form in your location, damaging wind gusts over 50mph are possible."

The National Weather Service also warned that temperatures Sunday through Tuesday will likely rise into the low 90s with increasing humidity levels. Heat advisories may be
needed for portions of the region.
